Dr. Etsuko Yasui is Assistant Professor at the Department of Applied Disaster and Emergency Studies at Brandon University. She has studied community recovery from the 1995 Kobe earthquake in Japan. Her current work focuses on the human impact of disasters and the assessment of community capacity in coping with such events, including the recent high water event in Brandon, Manitoba and the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan in 2011. Dr. Yasui was born and raised in Kyoto, Japan.
